Wed, 8 June 2005 ![]() Show Notes for Edition 018 We are back... finally!
It is time for a new edition of The Grind. Today I am joined by special guest This is part two of set two recorded at Brockville, Ontario. I really like this theatre style matrix recording. Unfortunately there are about six seconds at the beginning of the set that are slightly distorted. Due to the live nature of the event I have conditioned but could not cut out this section. However, listen on with confidence. Alright, the truth is I was listening to the recording of set one during the break and forgot to reset a few little bitty knobs to their recording positions, Arrrrg!. It was also quite a shock to the ears. Although flawed this is probably my favorite "concert theatre" matrix type recording that I captured. It has some cool time signature changes that blend seemlessly together creating a unique synergy - says I. Stayed tuned for more upcoming LIVE Flook sets in the future including a special acoustic only recording of the "Flook Unplugged" evening at The Georgian House in historic Alexandria.

The long awaited Dub Trinity and Chet Singh show recorded live at the Mercury Lounge in Ottawa. A mix of socially conscious dub poetry and reggae music. Too cool. Also mixed into the show is an interview that I did with Chet from his home. Special thanks to Beau Dixon. Wed, 6 April 2005 Edition 006 of The Daily Grind takes us on a visit to Fading Ways Records. Check out the FWR mission statement. I managed to squeeze in a few websites but ended up skipping the Tech Tip of the Day due to time restrictions. Moving on. I announced in today's show my intention to change the name of the podcast to The Grind out of respect for a lad who infrequently podcasts out of the U.S. as The Daily Grind Coffee. His podcast started several months before mine. So as to avoid confusion between the two shows I am renaming my show The Grind (also freeing me up from my "calling the show 'Daily' but not airing it daily" guilt all in one fell swoop.Yaaa!) Featured artists today are:

Fri, 1 April 2005 ARRRG! I can't bring myself to archive this show offline yet. Featured artists today are Irish and UK sensation: Flook This instrumental group is incredible. A reel sonic treat. Join me as we find out more about the band. Although I found some great pics of the band in concert I would encourage you to visit their website, buy some CD's perhaps and check out their roadtour pics so I don't have to rip off someones' great photos without permission. (though I'm working on it! Permission that is not stealing them.) I want to send a great big thank you to "Doc" Johnson from celticcultures.com.
Finally a show with production levels I can live with. Surely the best sound quality yet of all the shows - and the quality of all future shows lets hope!. As always your feedback is appreciated.

Wed, 23 March 2005 ![]() Its time for edition #004 of "The Daily Grind" series. Today I am joined in studio by singer/songwriter John Griffiths. WoW! What a whopping big picture of John. After he left I realized that I had forgotten to take John's picture so I went and dug up this oldy from the TM Gang archives from new Year's Eve at Wall's house several years ago and cropped him out (with Wall's coffee cup full of red wine!) Hold on to your hats people.I believe that John's acoustic piece could be a great little intro/extro piece for the show. RoB As always your feedback is appreciated.

Wed, 9 March 2005 This edition has been taken offline in advance of the release of the remix. I will include the interview with Ellen Hamilton about their upcoming trip to Iqaluit in the remixed release. Recent technological advances advances, ok I broke down and dropped the cash needed for equipment appropriate to the task, and computer catastrophies have allowed me to be able to substantially recondition the original recording. Editor's Geek Note:I shot this for video test purposes and only later tried to use the audio here. I had after all never even heard of podcasting! The original is actually the soundtrack from the condenser microphone on my digital video camera. This means you can actually hear the motor of the camera whirring around during quiet moments and a viscious high end. Well yahoo! Another show is in the can. This one is huge-ish at around 97 MB and about an hour and forty five minutes long. Show notes for this one are easy. Night Sun. There that about covers it. Levels are still the hardest part of producing the show, though with the new mixer its getting much easier. Of course, feel like going back and reposting 1_A. EDITOR'S NOTE: this post will soon be replave by a remastered version of the orginal recordings. Recent improvements here at bovinefreepress.com have allowed me to substantially improve the sound quality. In addition , I will add an interview with Ellen Hamilton from Night Sun. When I first shot the video of this "Road Trip Show" I really did not envision using it this way. Actually I had never even heard of podcasting yet. Sometimes you just have to go with what you have. This show also features the first telephone interview with The Daily Grind's International Weather Bureau Chief, Barry Wallace. As always your feedback is appreciated.
